This means that the money you contribute is deducted from your taxable income, which reduces your current tax bill. However, when you withdraw the money in retirement, you will be taxed at your ordinary income tax rate at that time.

On the other hand, Roth 401k contributions are taxed now, at your current income tax rate. This means that the money you contribute will not be deducted from your taxable income, but when you withdraw the money in retirement, it will be tax-free.

So, which one should you choose? The answer depends on your individual circumstances and tax situation. If you expect to be in a higher tax bracket in retirement, then it may make sense to pay taxes now and contribute to a Roth 401k. However, if you expect to be in a lower tax bracket in retirement, then traditional 401k contributions may be the better choice.
